A classic comforting dish that combines fresh green beans, creamy mushroom soup, and crispy French fried onions, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh green beans
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup French fried onions
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Trim the ends of the green beans and blanch them in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Add the blanched green beans and half of the French fried onions to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and top with the remaining French fried onions and shredded cheddar cheese (if using).
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
- Serve warm and enjoy your Southern-style green bean casserole!
Notes
For a crunchier topping, mix in some crushed crackers with the French fried onions. Fresh green beans produce the best flavor.
