Description

A classic comforting dish that combines fresh green beans, creamy mushroom soup, and crispy French fried onions, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup French fried onions
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Trim the ends of the green beans and blanch them in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add the blanched green beans and half of the French fried onions to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven.
  7. Remove the casserole from the oven and top with the remaining French fried onions and shredded cheddar cheese (if using).
  8. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy your Southern-style green bean casserole!

Notes

For a crunchier topping, mix in some crushed crackers with the French fried onions. Fresh green beans produce the best flavor.
