Description

A classic Southern side dish featuring fresh green beans cooked in savory bacon grease, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1/2 onion, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Trim the ends of the fresh green beans.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the grease in the skillet.
  3. If desired, add chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until fragrant.
  4. Add the green beans to the skillet, stirring to coat in the bacon grease.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the green beans are tender.
  7. Crumble the cooked bacon over the green beans and toss to combine.
  8. Serve warm as a delightful side dish.

Notes

For variations, consider adding bell peppers or cherry tomatoes. For a creamier version, stir in butter before serving. Adjust seasonings to taste.
