Description

A delightful sandwich combining toasted bread, gooey cheese, savory ham, and a rich fried egg, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread (preferably white)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (softened)
  • 2 slices ham (cooked)
  • 2 slices Gruyere cheese (or any melting cheese)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread and place them buttered side down on a baking sheet.
  3. Spread mustard on the unbuttered sides of the bread.
  4. Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each piece of bread.
  5. Close the sandwich by placing the two halves together, buttered sides out.
  6. Bake in the oven for about 6-8 minutes, or until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted.
  7. While the sandwich is baking, fry an egg in a small skillet until the white is set but the yolk is still runny.
  8. Place the fried egg on top of the sandwich, season with salt and pepper, and serve immediately.

Notes

Best served hot right out of the oven. Pair with a side salad or fresh fruit for a complete meal.
