Description

Delicious bars featuring a buttery crust and sweet apple filling topped with a crunchy oat mixture.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Cream together the butter, flour, powdered sugar, and salt until smooth.
  3. Add vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the baking dish to form a crust.
  5. Combine sliced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl, then spread over the crust.
  6. Mix in oats and optional nuts, spreading this mixture over the apples.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Let bars cool completely before cutting for cleaner slices.
