Delicious bars featuring a buttery crust and sweet apple filling topped with a crunchy oat mixture.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups sliced apples
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup oats
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- Cream together the butter, flour, powdered sugar, and salt until smooth.
- Add vanilla extract and mix well.
- Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the baking dish to form a crust.
- Combine sliced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl, then spread over the crust.
- Mix in oats and optional nuts, spreading this mixture over the apples.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
Notes
For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Let bars cool completely before cutting for cleaner slices.
